This year has also passed and like every year we summarize everything that has been and a wish for what will be; 2024 has truly been a year full of changes and news also and above all regarding “invisible” but very important things for the functioning of the platform- [Platform: the set of the main domain and all the subdomain of a particular website; also the computer architecture and equipment using a particular operating system] - . One of the most unexpected things of the past year was the partially destruction of our datacenter in Strasbourg, an unexpected accident that cost us a lot and almost two weeks of offline during which we had to transfer the platform to a secondary server in Mumbai in India and then permanently store them in Italy in another datacenter of our property; we have also changed all the hardware at our disposal by connecting a server 10 times more capacious, powerful and fast than the previous one. So, like every year, I can start making a list of things done and sum up this year in short.
After the big party for the 15th anniversary in 2023, in 2024 we started writing on the blog starting from February where we started explaining the use of one of the supported payment gateways with the related terms of service; on March 21, 2024 our datacenter started having problems and we promptly informed all users with a post warning that the problems would last for several days due to a fire and a consequent failure of the machines, so we have immediately directed all the traffic in our secondary datacenter in Mumbai (India). In the immediate future it was discovered that the damage to the datacenter was quite severe and involved the entire neighborhood where it is located and that it would take several weeks to get everything back online. We wasted no time and immediately on April 8, 2024 we modified the offer of special accounts with two new accounts with brand new features that can be activated, in the future; furthermore, on April 13, we increased the account- [Account: an Account contains the personal information that is assigned to those who register and access with email and password] - security system with two-factor authentication via an authentication app; on April 22, we then decided to make the rate limit codes open source by publishing them entirely on Github with all the supporting documentation.
Starting from April 29, 2024 we finally decided to recover our servers and update the hardware increasing the speed and performance by 10 times; in addition, the final decision to change the datacenter has arrived, we have moved our infrastructures to Italy inside a building we own with our highly specialized staff directly connected to our content- [Contents: every content intended as text, images, audio or video] - distribution network- [Network of Contents: is the channel in which owners can post their content and the audience can see the contents posted by the owners] - throughout the world; it was a decision taken with moderation and prepared in the previous months, when the datacenter in Strasbourg was offline, in which the server operated in Mumbai (India) and which took about 1 month to be 100% operational; but we did it, if today we are able to write to you it is also thanks to the great work done in these months which also brought an increase in performance 10 times greater than the previous infrastructure, with 16-core CPU and about 64 GB of RAM and 10TB of space for each machine. Truly a work with the heart that will be remembered in the coming years. We let exactly one month pass for the testing and operation of the entire new infrastructure and on May 20, 2024 we returned to work on the codes and we started to implement what were the new specifications of the new infrastructure, namely the new timezone, this time however we decided to set the entire platform with a timezone valid throughout the world, namely UTC and then all the scripts will translate the timezone on the fly based on the time zone selected by the user; a significant innovation that has allowed us to improve the entire platform also at the script and portability level. So on May 22 I took some time to also be able to explain in detail the work done in the new datacenter to ensure maximum reliability and security in internal and external communications, I wanted to explain to you the importance of using a DNS over TLS or a DNS over HTTPS. On 10 June 2024 we finally managed to keep faith with all the commitments made and announce the 16th anniversary of MYETV. We also tested the speed and performance of the new infrastructure in the field with sensational results to say the least; with these premises, from June 20 we started working on the platform and on all the updates to be made and we announced a drastic change in the URLs of the content networks and a division between private accounts and public networks; on June 25, we introduced the brand new X specail account that can be activated with different boosts (levels) and can also be given as a gift to your friends without a subscription with unlimited duration; and finally the time has come for the long-awaited 16th anniversary of MYETV and we have presented dozens of new features that are worth reading, including the new special accounts- [Special Accounts: an account with elevated privileges and/or access to special sections] - , the new advertising feature, the default playfeeds active for TV applications, the new content support and reporting platform compatible with European DSA laws and many other new features; the month of July 2024 was then a succession of presentations of new features related to the 16th anniversary such as the update of MYCLOUD with the inclusion in the count of available space for all the images uploaded to your networks and also for all the videos uploaded to your networks; in addition to all this we also presented the count of visits also for unregistered users through unique identifiers associated with cookies; on July 31, 2024 we tried to explain how the new moderation and support platform works through tickets for MYETV where you can directly contact the moderators or administrators of the platform for support or content reporting. We took some time to use all the new features just added and on August 20, 2024 I decided to write a short tutorial to explain in detail how to create a tunnel through Cloudflare (cloudflared) and publish your applications from an address such as localhost and a port of your choice; also at the end of August 2024 we decided to make some small end-of-summer technical updates and we worked on some features to improve them and make them accessible to anyone. On October 9, 2024, a symbolic date as a form of support for a common European legislation, we finally decided to introduce the document based on the new European law Digital Service Act for the reporting of audio/video content, advertising and the implementation of parental control; on October 15 it’s time to do Boo! with Halloween and as per tradition we updated and decorated the entire platform for the usual Halloweek we added and improved many features and changed the name of some. On November 20, 2024 we decided to inform about the functioning of the MYETV internet lines and how we ensured “carrier neutral” lines, that is, from different load balancing service providers; we then arrived at the present day on December 5 we announced the updates for the end of year holidays with many other new features to be discovered and on December 11 we talked about how we used artificial intelligence to translate the entire platform (and the texts posted by users).
This has been 2024; a year full of changes and, as already said, a starting year for the artificial intelligence of the future. We hope for better years, especially for us and for our workers who had to face a serious emergency at the beginning of 2024; at the end of this year we have activated dozens of new payment methods and we hope that they will be used every day to support our platform and our work.
