Counting views of individual users on contents

As a new feature was added recently, during MYETV’s 16th anniversary, which displays the number of visits to a content- [Contents: every content intended as text, images, audio or video] - made by a single user; the number of visits are recorded whether the user is logged in with their account- [Account: an Account contains the personal information that is assigned to those who register and access with email and password] - or whether the user has no account. How did we manage to do this? Thanks to the individual users’ peer-to-peer key- [Peer-To-Peer Key: it is a key assigned by the central system to the user and can identify him within the same system] - . When accessing any content, the following data is recorded:

  • The peer-to-peer key used
  • The IP address of the user
  • The user ID (different if logged in)
  • Nationality
  • The date and time of each individual access- [Access the simple access to a website as a visitor] -
  • Whether the access is multiple or single

However, we must make some clarifications to respect the privacy of individual users:

  • IP addresses are always encrypted with AES-256-bit technology
  • The peer-to-peer key is always encrypted with AES technology
  • Data relating to users (user IDs) are always hashed with secure technologies (SHA)

This data is also useful for protecting the platform- [Platform: the set of the main domain and all the subdomain of a particular website; also the computer architecture and equipment using a particular operating system] - and for being able to independently understand any malicious behavior that is not allowed. As specified in the peer-to-peer network document, the keys can also be disabled by one or more moderators for a period of time.

How to control recording or displaying information

These view counts may appear on each piece of content on the timeline or even on individual piece of content statistics pages; this information can never be viewed for other users but only for the current user who is viewing it.
It is possible to disable the display of this information or even stop its recording, however limiting some features of the platform.
To disable the display of this information, simply change the “View Visit Count” option on the “Peer-To-Peer- [Peer-To-Peer Network: is a network made up of many p2p keys that can communicate with each other held together by a central system that can control them] - Options” page, this option will be saved for the key used at that moment or for the account used (if you have logged in access).
To disable the recording of this information, simply deactivate the peer-to-peer key and make it inactive (red) but in this way the entire platform will have limitations in the use of some features.
