We’re excited to announce the testing phase of a brand-new feature on MYETV that helps ensure external content- [Contents: every content intended as text, images, audio or video] - shared through our platform- [Platform: the set of the main domain and all the subdomain of a particular website; also the computer architecture and equipment using a particular operating system] - always stays up to date.
Whenever someone shares a link using the MYETV sharer- [Sharer: the section of the platform with which the networks can share content, inside or outside of the platform] - tool, our system now automatically fetches and updates the metadata (like title, description, and preview image) directly from the linked website. This scraping process occurs every 7 days from the last update, only if the content is accessed from someone, making sure that what users see on the timeline reflects the most current version of the source content without weighing too much on the service that hosts the url.
How It Works
We’ve implemented a dedicated scraping system installed on our systems, which acts just like a real web browser. It visits the shared page and retrieves relevant metadata in the same way a user would see it. This ensures maximum accuracy and compatibility with modern websites, including dynamic pages and content loaded via JavaScript.
Each shared post on the timeline also displays the original source’s URL beneath the title, accompanied by the name of the external website’s author or organization. This provides additional transparency and credit to content creators, while also helping viewers verify the origin of the shared material. We are testing also a way to customize that only for internal content and a way to add new note for external urls.
