Today we bring you the first update of the April 2021 series in detail; the new “silence” or “unsilence” feature is builded to be used by everyone with high privacy; how? Thanks to a new wonderfull technology called “HTML5” + “WEBSTORAGE” and that is a complete client-side database that resides directly on the client where the browser runs (the browser must be HTML5 ready). This, infact, creates a private unlimited database in the client machine that can be read only by the person who are using that machine; just like that; none of us will never know what content has been silenced. This new technology allows us to save any data we want inside the customer’s machine without any limitation and even with the possibility of encryption; since we’re talking about saving physical data inside clients computers, we did not use the encryption of the information because this time is not necessary. This data can be deleted in several ways:
- Directly inside the browser settings (every HTML5 browser out there must have privacy settings for cookies and HTML5 databases)
- Inside the website: when you silence a content or network the data is transmitted to the client database; when you unsilence the content or network the data will be erased
- By resetting the mobile app (if you are using it) with the relative button or inside the settings of the app on your operating system
- By changing browsers: HTML5 databases can be shared by browser, but no every browser have this feature
This feature is never used in conjunction with your registered account and informations will be never saved in our databases. This means that, even if you are logged in, if you switch browsers it is possible that the settings of your HTML5 database are different from the previous browser. This new technology gives to you a huge added value to your privacy and your freedom to hear or see what you want. This is a milestone in computing and can be useful in a variety of applications that require a high level of privacy.
“Web storage, sometimes known as DOM storage (Document Object Model storage), provides web apps with methods and protocols for storing client-side data. Web storage supports persistent data storage, similar to cookies but with a greatly enhanced capacity and no information stored in the HTTP request header. There are two main web storage types: local storage and session storage, behaving similarly to persistent cookies and session cookies respectively. Web Storage is standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and WHATWG. All major browsers support it. “

This is how it is builded inside MYETV
First of all choose the content or network to silence
then a confirm modal dialog will ask you what to silence
and the magic is there; the content or the entire network will be instantly muted in all timelines.
I am proud to tell you that MYETV is the first platform to use this type of technology for preference data (considered sensitive) concerning the user and only the user of the platform; the fact that this technology is much safer than a simple cookie reassures us about the future use we could make of it. In fact, we could create entire databases that reside on clients’ machines, excluding us from any responsibility for the use of the same. The result of a silenced content will be something like that:
As you can see, it is the same content displayed above; with the difference that it is silenced. A button, in the upper right, allows you to view the content normally while another button, in the upper left, allows you to silence or unsilence the content. For every silenced content it will not be possible to use the “Watch Now” feature, which will only be activated after clicking on the button at the top right.
Please note: the images above are for demonstration purposes only and functionalities may change over time.
Thank you for reading, folks. Have a nice day!!!
